Derby u3a was founded in 1985 and celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2025. It is run entirely by volunteers: the Executive Committee, group organisers and others who help at meetings and events. We currently have over 600 members.

It is member of the Third Age Trust, and runs in accordance with the Principles and Vision of the Movement. It is an independently managed, self governing organisation, within the framework of The Trust and became a registered charity in 2016 (Reg. No. 1165445).
Our groups meet at various locations across Derby, depending on the nature of the group. We do not have our own office or building, so we hire rooms from other organisations.
Derby u3a Exective Committee
Derby u3a is managed by an executive committee. Committee members are trustees who must:
• act in the interests of the u3a
• ensure that it operates in a manner that is consistent with its objects and purposes
• act with care and diligence and in accordance with any legal requirements.
The committee currently meets once a month and more frequently when there is a need. The minutes of committee meetings are available to all members on request by application to the Secretary.
