Meeting topics in 2025

Below is a list of our meetings during 2025 (most recent first) and the topics covered. Where possible there will be a link to the material featured.

Please note that the linked material will be one of the following types: a document (PDF), a presentation (shared Google Slides) or a movie (mp4) shared from a Google Drive. Movies you may find more convenient to download to view. The format is compatible with Windows and Mac and even iPad and Android tablets. Some Smart TV's may also be able to play the file.

December 2025 - Our featured band this month was Fleetwood Mac. We started the meeting however with a brief tribute to Steve Cropper, who had passed away in the previous week. View the tribute here. We then played a selection of tracks by Fleetwood Mac, covering the three key periods of their career, the Peter Green years, the middle period and finally the last incarnation of the band, featuring Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. A list of tracks played with links to YouTube videos is here.

November 2025 - The subject was The Eagles. We started off with a short video presentation examining the emergence of 'Country Rock' from the Byrds, through the Flying Burrito Brothers to the Eagles and then played tracks (PDF). Andy also did a short presentation in the middle, going through their discography.

October 2025 - The theme of our meeting was a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne who passed away earlier in the summer. We played Black Sabbath and Ozzy tracks nominated by members. A list of tracks played is on a PDF here, with links to their YouTube videos.

September 2025 - The meeting for the first time featured a Zoom 'interview' - organised by the national U3A with Ian Gillan, former vocalist with Deep Purple. He was an engaging subject, informing us of his life and history in music.

August 2025 - Hosted by Andy Timms, who gave a presentation on the Beatles. PDF of presentation here.

July 2025 - The meeting featured an entertaining (and accordingly to some participants, quite difficult) 'Creepy Crawlies' themed quiz by Linda Readie. If you fancy having a go yourself, the Quiz Sheet is here, the list of tracks played and Crib Sheet (answers) are all downloadable from the links.

June 2025 - 'The Wizard in a Checked Shirt' - presentation on Rory Gallagher. This was in the form of a two part 'documentary'. This is available as two shared videos: Part 1 and Part 2. Be aware these are large (240Mb) mp4 files should you choose to download them.

May 2025 - 'War' a celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE day, playing tracks inspired by war or protest against war.

April 2025 - World Music II - playing tracks we didn't get round to playing in March.

March 2025 - World Music. The group chose tracks from bands around the world (primarily non English speaking countries). List of tracks played (YouTube).

February 2025 - B Sides and Valentines - memorable B sides chosen by the group. Plus a track for Valentines Day.

January 2025 - My Significant Song - personal choices by members of the group
